Central Park Lake

According to the city's website there are over 1,700 parks, playgrounds, and city run recreational areas in New York. The most well known is, of course, Central Park.  We decided to swing by The Lake in Central Park one afternoon. With it's small dirt paths winding through wooded areas it's easy to forget that you're only minutes from skyscrapers and taxi cabs. The lake was full of tourists in row boats but there are enough walking trails that we could enjoy ourselves without feeling surrounded by tourists at every turn. We didn't get a lot of pictures from this trip, but here they are.

This stone path lead to an old wrought iron gazebo at the water's edge

Shakespeare Garden is not far from The Lake and was in full bloom with a wide array of flowers. I had never seen flowers like this, they look like inverted Tiger Lilies.

Newbie Tip: Central Park covers close to 1.5 square miles of land making it nearly impossible to see everything in one day.  Make several small trips and you'll get to enjoy more of this gorgeous park with less stress! Like any major tourist attraction, plan visits to more popular areas of the park during less tourist heavy times.
